Reception for New Faculty

On Tuesday, August 18th, PCCEA members had an opportunity to meet and welcome our new faculty members to the College.  We had an outstanding turnout, with almost all of the new faculty and several PCCEA officers and members attending.  Click here for a slideshow.

We hope to continue this tradition and encourage all faculty to take the time to welcome our new colleagues.

Results of the Faculty Evaluation of PCC Administration

We ended up with 130 complete evaluations of administration.
The response from Administrators was uniformly positive and appreciative. We promised that the data for individual Administrators would be kept confidential, however we are posting two files that are of interest. The Summary document contains the survey results of a fictitious Administrator. This file gives you an idea of the kind of information that was provided to each Administrator. The information consists primarily of frequency tables indicating the number of various responses for each question as well as a list of all submitted comments.

The Data Analysis file shows the average score (on a 5 point scale) for each question for various entities. The first line contains the score for an individual Administrator (in this case, the same fictitious Administrator). Subsequent lines show the average, minimum, and maximum scores for each administrative position (President, Vice President of Instruction, and Division Deans). A third set of data shows average scores for each campus along with an approximate number of responses from each campus. This data is true and accurate data for the College.

Each individual Administrator saw his/her own Summary Result File and a customized version of the Data Analysis file. The results in the Data Analysis files for positions and campuses are valid.

Overall, the effort was successful and informative (for us as well as the Administration). PCCEA expects that we will refine and repeat the effort next spring.

Write a Letter to your Legislator

PCCEA asks you to join us in a letter-writing campaign to help your legislators understand the importance of funding education (including community colleges).  On  June 4th, the Senate Appropriations Committee passed a budget proposal, excluding Democrats and was passed with 31 Republican votes at 4:30 in the morning. Please take a minute to look over the summary, paying particular attention to the policy changes (which have nothing to do with the budget and are seemingly in retaliation for the activism displayed in March and since).  The Senate Republicans delayed sending this proposal to the Governor because she has indicated she would veto it.  If the Arizona Legislature does not pass a budget by July 1, the state loses almost $2 billion in Federal Stimulus dollars. This loss would be devastating and would affect much more than public education.  Note: Do not use your work email or computer for your letter writing!

·         Talking Points

·         Sample Letter

·         Find Your Legislator

·         Contact Governor Brewer.  Ask her to make budget decisions in an open and transparent manner that includes opportunities for input from all legislators.

·         CARE Website: information network for Arizonans to take action in support of public education

Pay a visit to your legislator!  AEA is organizing trips every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday in June, so please sign up to go to the State Capitol with AEA today!

Talk about, and forward this information to friends, neighbors, colleagues, and fellow community stakeholders. Explain why stable and adequate community college funding is essential to Arizona's economic future.
